Why I Decided to Explore a New Art & Crafts Hobby Each Month
A.Yard.A. THe STORY OF HOW THE Curiously Creative WAS BORN
The Curiously Artistic provides quick beginner's guides to a new arts & crafts hobby each month starting in January 2022 (right in time for those new year's resolutions!). Each guide includes a iv-week learning schedule with daily or weekly exercises and a drove of the all-time online resource I've found for that topic.
This site has been a long time coming. And it's something I'chiliad extremely proud to have finally launched.
And then why did I get-go this?
I have always been the curiously creative type of person. I've appreciated all arts & crafts of any kind, from the renaissance-style oil paintings to polymer clay jewelry making. I'm completely overwhelmed with excitement when I walk through an arts & craft store because I don't know where to kickoff because I want to exercise information technology all.
I don't have that 1 specific hobby I can tell people I do when they ask. I thought maybe I only haven't found my niche still. Am I going to exist a really adept watercolorist? Would I love knitting? Peradventure photography? I didn't know.
What Idid know was that I wouldn't know until I tried. And if I was going to make an attempt, I had to make a real try at this.
I decided to dedicate a whole month to one specific hobby.
I felt that in 30-something days of immersion, I would be able to tell if this would be something I could choice up as a lifelong hobby based on my level of skill, natural talent or interest by the end of the calendar month.
So the offset of this year, I decided to try handlettering for 30 days. I signed upwards for a class and a daily challenge. I checked out many typography and handlettering books from my local library so that I could get a skilful grasp and agreement of the foundation and history of the subject area.
After a week of reading books and feeling fifty-fifty more excited and knowledgeable, I picked upward the pencil and started handlettering. By the fifteenth solar day, I was bored and in turn, shocked by this sentiment. I had been interested in all things related to typography for so long. I followed many Instagram handletterers admiring their work. I didn't think I lacked the skill or talent – I knew it would come with practice. I merely didn't feel the satisfaction I thought I would have felt.
So I moved on to sketching. Urban sketching for a while. Figure sketching. Illustrating. I started to feel less disappointed that I couldn't find my niche. I decided to allow go of these expectations I set for myself and I just followed the curiously creative side of me. Once I felt similar I had plenty of i hobby, I just smoothly transitioned to the next thing that called out to me. The pressure was gone and I enjoyed this creative exploration I was doing.
I realized that I don't demand to settle on one particular hobby. I didn't need to find my niche.
My niche was being a creative explorer.
Following the curiously creative side of me. Yup, that's where the name is from.
I created The Curiously Creativeto share my journey because I'one thousand sure there are others like me. Or at least I promise there is. Every month after exploring a new hobby, I acquire And so much while accumulating a listing of my favorite resources. Why not share that with others?
